FLEA AND TICK CONTROL

Fleas and ticks are no fun to deal with! They love finding hosts to latch onto, especially your furry family members. Hopefully, you have already taken measures to prevent fleas and ticks from latching onto your pets, however, this unfortunately does not eradicate them from your property.

After many years in the industry, we have noticed certain types of fleas and ticks that are commonly found on properties in Arizona. Common fleas include the cat flea, oriental rat flea, sticktight flea, and human flea. Common ticks include the brown dog tick, western blacklegged tick, and Rocky Mountain wood tick.

It is so important to take measures to protect your property from these common fleas and ticks because it is possible that they could be carrying the following diseases, which are transmittable through their bites:

• Tularemia – A disease transmitted by dog ticks causing malaise, anorexia, and vomiting, among other symptoms.
• Tapeworm – A parasite that affects humans and animals, often showing symptoms including loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
• Anemia – Fleas can induce anemia in your cats and dogs since they like to drink blood. Make sure you thoroughly inspect your pets for fleas even when they aren’t scratching themselves as much.
• Lyme disease – Check for expanding red rings of rashes on your skin coupled with flu-like symptoms because these are often signs of Lyme disease.
• Rocky Mountain spotted fever – RMSF is transmitted by the Rocky Mountain wood tick and displays itself through fever along with swelling around the eyes and back of the hand.
